Deputy US marshal killed in shooting in Tucson

Authorities have identified the deputy killed as Deputy U.S. Marshal Chase White, 41.

Sources close to the investigation confirm to News 4 Tucson that a deputy U.S. marshal was killed in a shooting near Glenn Street and Oracle Road.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey took to Twitter to offer his condolences and prayers to the law enforcement officer's family.

Authorities have identified the deputy killed as Deputy U.S. Marshal Chase White, 41.

White had been with the U.S. Marshals Service for three years and was also a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve waiting for deployment, according to District of Arizona U.S. Marshal David Gonzales.

White leaves behind a wife and four children, ages 7 to 14 years old.

Tucson police said shots were fired in the area around 5:30 p.m. It is possible that a raid of a house was taking place when the shots were fired, according to what neighbors told KVOA reporters at the scene.

Officers say a heavy police presence is in the area as they continue their investigation. Information on the events leading up to the shooting is still very limited at this time.

The public is asked to avoid the area.
