PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — A suspect who allegedly broke into a group home in southern Arizona armed with a knife was shot and killed by a Pima County Sheriff's deputy Friday morning.

The agency said the suspect, only identified as a man, entered a group home in Catalina, located west of the Mt. Lemmon area, and held someone hostage with his knife.

A deputy arrived at the scene and gave commands for the suspect to drop the knife. The sheriff's office said the suspect allegedly did not comply and the deputy fired a shot.

The suspect died at the scene.

The person who was held hostage was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. No deputies were injured.

The Tucson Police Department will be leading the investigation into the fatal shooting. The sheriff's office will conduct its own investigation to determine if any of the agency's policies were violated.
