CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The Casa Grande Union High School District is mourning the recent loss of its athletic director at Vista Grande High School.
Louis Ramirez II, who had more than a dozen years of coaching experience, died unexpectedly on Aug. 8, according to an announcement made by the district on Friday.
"Mr. Ramirez was deeply passionate about his work, always striving to do what was best for our students and the athletes he coached. His dedication and spirit will be profoundly missed," the school district wrote in a statement.
Ramirez had attended school in Casa Grande and coached football in Marana before eventually returning to the Pinal County community to serve as athletic director.
“I’ll always be a coach at heart, you can never take that out of me,” Ramirez told PinalCentral in 2023.
The school district did not disclose the circumstances involving Ramirez's death.
