Nearly three months after they were separated, two bonded dogs were reunited in their new forever home Saturday.
According to the Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue of Arizona, Achilles the 12-year-old Doberman and Seth the 14-year-old beagle were surrendered to the Arizona Humane Society last fall when their owner relocated and left them behind.
The rescue said the pair was incredibly bonded, having spent a lifetime together eating, playing and curling up together to sleep.
The Arizona Humane Society spent months trying to keep them together. But they had to separate the two when they began to deteriorate in a shelter environment.
Another rescue was willing to take Seth, and, unable to stall any longer, Achilles went to DHDR and Seth went to the Arizona Beagle Rescue.
Achilles, who is well past the average life expectancy for a Doberman, lived a good life in his foster home, according to DHDR.
But the rescue said a professional evaluator noted that Achilles was having a bit of trouble adjusting to life without his brother. DHDR said whenever the foster family talked about it, the had to spell out S-E-T-H, so they wouldn't confuse Achilles.
A family adopted Achilles in March. Meanwhile, Seth had not yet been adopted and was still at the rescue.
A week later, DHDR said they got an email from Achilles' adopter, saying he had read through Achilles's records and had just applied to adopt Seth.
DHDR and the Arizona Beagle Rescue worked together to get the bonded pair back together as quickly as possible.
Seth went on a road trip up north, stopping for ice cream along the way.
The pair was reunited Saturday, nearly three months after they were separated on Christmas.
