COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — A 71-year-old man reported missing Monday evening at Grand Canyon National Park appears to have been found deceased.
The man was boating along the Colorado River before he went missing in the Lower Nankoweap Camp area, National Park Service officials said.
Park rangers located a body Tuesday in the river near mile marker 63.5. Preliminary information indicates the body is that of the missing boater, NPS said.
The man's identity has not been disclosed. NPS and the medical examiner are investigating how the man died.
At least seven other fatalities have been reported at the Grand Canyon since July 31. Just yesterday, park officials announced the death of a 59-year-old man from Colorado who died on the 10th day of a river trip.
According to the Associated Press, the park usually reports about 10 to 15 deaths per year.
