Fire in Bisbee destroys 2 century-old buildings in historic downtown

The fire started late Wednesday night and caused severe damage to 28 and 30 Main Street, which were built in 1904.

BISBEE, Ariz. — A fire in Bisbee left two 120-year-old buildings on Main Street severely damaged overnight. As of Thursday, most of Main Street is closed down.

Our sister station, News 4 Tucson, told us that smoke could be seen coming from 28 Main Street around 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

This section of the street was built in 1904. The extent of the damage to these historic buildings is currently unknown.

Notably, the Bisbee Fire of 1908, which destroyed much of Main Street, stopped at the south side of 30 Main Street. The Bisbee Mining & Historical Museum shared photos of the buildings from as far back as 1908.

The nearby Letson Loft Hotel was evacuated and guests were moved to the Copper Queen Hotel, News 4 told us. The Copper Queen Library was also shut down due to the fire.

Commerce and Main streets are closed until further notice due to a safety hazard, the City of Bisbee announced.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

This is a developing story. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
