KINGMAN, Ariz. — A bank robbery suspect sustained critical injuries Monday after he was shot several times by Kingman police officers.
At about 11 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a robbery call at a bank near Hualapai Mountain Road and Van Buren Street. Witnesses observed the suspect leaving the bank with about $1,700 of cash and getting into a gray truck.
Kingman police said officers located a vehicle matching the truck at a business on Kingman Avenue. A subject believed to be the suspect brandished a firearm, resulting in officers shooting the individual several times.
The wounded subject was taken to a local hospital. He's been identified as 53-year-old Mario Fragassi of Golden Valley.
Officers later learned a second subject was in the truck when it left the bank. Police said the second suspect, identified as 48-year-old Christopher Ayala, called for and left in a taxi as officers were pursuing Fragassi.
Ayala was later apprehended and booked into jail. Fragassi is still receiving treatment at a Las Vegas hospital.
They're facing felony charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault.
The Lake Havasu Police Department will be taking over the investigation into the police shooting.
