PHOENIX — An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper was arrested and booked after making threats to kill another DPS employee, the department said Wednesday.
Edward Swan, 48, was arrested in Gilbert on Saturday on one count of threatening to cause physical injury to another.
According to court documents, Swan made "statements of violence and physical harm" toward the unnamed employee in front of a DPS sergeant during a July 26 meeting.
Swan, according to court documents, said "I hate that guy" and "I'm going to kill that [expletive]," referring to the employee.
The sergeant, referred to in the documents as Sgt. Bunn, responded, "No, you're not. I know you're upset, but you can't say stuff like that."
Swan then responded, "No Bunn, I'm gonna [expletive] kill him," and later said, "If I ever see that guy in a bar, I am going to fight him. I'm gonna [expletive] him up."
The victim was told of Swan's comments and wanted him to be prosecuted.
Swan was released on his own recognizance and is set to appear in court next Aug. 15.
Swan had been with DPS for eight years, according to the department.
DPS said the investigation is ongoing and would not comment further on Swan's arrest.
