Arizona sending firefighters, engines to help California

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona is sending nearly 150 firefighters and over 40 fire engines from communities all over the state to help California battle major wildfires.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management said Saturday the Arizona personnel and equipment will handle assignments that include fire suppression and backfilling for local fire departments. Some have already been assigned to a massive wildfire in Southern California.

Many crews are from rural fire agencies but Arizona cities sending crews including Glendale, Nogales, Peoria and Sedona.

The Arizona firefighters are a minimum 14-day assignment.
