Rebates available for Arizona residents to upgrade AC units

The rebate program is intended to help Arizona residents to install energy-efficient upgrades to their AC units.

PHOENIX — Low-income residents in Arizona can receive a rebate for upgrading their air conditioning unit thanks to a new statewide program.

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Resiliency announced Thursday it was launching the first phase of the Efficiency Arizona program, which aims to help reduce utility bills and promote clean energy.

In partnership with regional agencies, the program will focus on providing AC pumps to make a household's unit run more efficiently.

Recipients of the rebates must meet certain income requirements to be eligible. Homeowners can receive up to $14,000 in rebates for completing energy-efficient upgrades.

“This program is a game-changer for Arizona,” Maren Mahoney, director of the Arizona Governor's Office of Resiliency, said in a statement. “Efficiency Arizona will not only provide financial relief to households through substantial rebates but also contribute to our state’s broader goals of environmental sustainability and resilience."

Arizona's program is being funded through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Home Energy Rebates programs.
