APACHE COUNTY, Ariz. — A mother from northern Arizona has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for causing a car crash in July 2022 that killed her young daughter.
Leticia Ashley, 38, of St. Michaels consumed a half-pint of Fireball liquor before driving a car with her four young children on board, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The defendant lost control of her truck, resulting in the vehicle rolling multiple times.
Ashley's unrestrained 5-year-old daughter died and the defendant's other children sustained injuries. Ashley was taken to the hospital and treated for a broken arm.
After serving her prison sentence, Ashley will be placed on supervised release for three years.
