Arizona judge agrees to resign following DUI arrest

Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Cele Hancock was arrested in March for driving while impaired.

YAVAPAI COUNTY, Ariz. — An Arizona judge arrested earlier this year for driving while impaired has agreed to resign.

Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Cele Hancock was arrested in March during a traffic stop in Prescott. The judge was later convicted of a misdemeanor DUI charge.

According to a police report, Hancock was seen stumbling out of a local grocery store and "looked intoxicated" before driving off.

Following her arrest, the Arizona Supreme Court ordered for Hancock's cases to be reassigned to other judges.

The Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct announced Friday that Hancock had agreed to resign to resolve a complaint filed against her. The resolution further stipulates that Hancock has also agreed to not serve as a judicial officer in any capacity in Arizona.

Due to the resolution, the commission won't pursue disciplinary sanctions against Hancock.

Hancock was first elected to the Yavapai County bench in 2010.
