GILA COUNTY, Ariz. — A dog attack reported in Gila County yesterday resulted in a sheriff's office deputy shooting the animal.

On Sept. 10 at about 12:45 p.m., deputies were dispatched to reports of an assault in Claypool and located a possible suspected in a neighboring driveway.

As the subject was approached by the deputies, two dogs pushed open a screen door and began biting the subject's arms and legs. The suspect went into the doorway where the dogs emerged from with one of the dogs still biting his arm.

The sheriff's office said deputies followed and fired one shot at the "aggressive" dog. The suspect was taken to the hospital and was later cited for disorderly conduct for the initial incident.

The dog subsequently needed to be euthanized by animal control, the sheriff's office said.
