Arizona man issued criminal citation for damaging Trump signs with a machete

YUMA, Ariz. — Yuma authorities said a man seen in photos destroying Donald Trump campaign signs with a machete has been found and issued a criminal citation.

Several witnesses saw the man running over and damaging campaign signs with a machete on Wednesday near 40th Street and Foothills Boulevard, Yuma Sheriff's Office officials said. Deputies tried to find the man but did not find anyone matching his description or vehicle at the time. 

"Per Arizona Revised Statute 16-1019.A, it is a class 2 misdemeanor for any person to knowingly remove, alter, deface or cover any political sign of any candidate for public office without authorization," Yuma County officials said. "Additional charges of trespassing, theft, and/or criminal damage may also be applicable under certain circumstances."

Authorities thanked the community for their help in the investigation.
