APACHE COUNTY, Ariz — The Apache County Attorney's Office was served warrants on the morning of June 4 by the Arizona Attorney General's Office, officials said.

The White Mountain Independent reported that Apache County Attorney Michael Whiting's residence was also searched and that Whiting is unaccounted for.

The Arizona Attorney General's Office confirmed they served warrants "in connection with" the Apache County Attorney's Office on Tuesday morning, but would not comment further. The county stretches from Arizona's northeast corner through the White Mountains and includes part of the Navajo Nation.

According to reporting by the Mountain Daily Star, "unconfirmed reports" suggest the agencies involved in raiding the Apache County Attorney's Office were Phoenix police, Glendale police and others.

Arizona Department of Public Safety assisted with security at the scene, but told 12News the Arizona Attorney General's Office is handling the investigation.

The Apache County Sheriff's Office gave this statement to 12News:

"The Apache County Sheriff’s Office had no prior knowledge of the search warrants or indictments served yesterday. As far as we are aware no one from our agency has been implicated."
