Apache Junction accident leaves 1 dead, 1 hospitalized and road shutdown

Police say the driver died and the police officer was taken to the hospital.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. β€” A person has died and a police officer was taken to the hospital following a crash in Apache Junction Tuesday evening. 

The crash happened in the area of Apache Trail and Valley Drive shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Apache Junction Police Department. 

The crash caused road closures in all directions from Ironwood Drive to Thunderbird Drive. 

There is no estimated time for reopening the road.
