Airplane makes emergency landing on roadway in Pinal County after electrical fire

County officials said the incident happened Monday afternoon on Skyline Drive near San Tan Valley.

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. — The pilot of a small airplane was forced to make an emergency landing on a Pinal County roadway after an electrical fire in the plane.

The incident happened Monday afternoon at around 4 p.m. on Skyline Drive near San Tan Valley.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, the pilot contacted authorities after the plane began having issues to let them know he would have to land on Skyline Road. He said that he could smell an electrical fire and see smoke in the plane's cabin.

The pilot and a passenger were on the plane at the time. Both were injured, the sheriff's office said.

Felix and Judy's roads were closed following the emergency landing but have since reopened.
