ARIZONA, USA — An elderly man has died after falling in the Colorado River on a boating trip in the Grand Canyon, National Park Service officials announced.
Around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, park rangers received an emergency call from a commercial river trip near Fossil Rapid, officials said. They were told that an 80-year-old man had fallen into the river when his boat flipped.
Both other members of the group and park rangers who were flown in to the location attempted CPR, but all resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, officials said.
The Coconino County Medical Examiner is assisting in the investigation. Park officials ruled the man's death a drowning.
The man's identity wasn't disclosed.
