Fire reported at Hickman's Egg Ranch, 700-foot chicken coop 'fully involved' authorities say

The fire was reported at Hickman's Egg Ranch — the largest egg company in the Southwest — in Tonopah early Saturday morning.

TONOPAH, Ariz. — A 700-foot chicken coop was fully engulfed in flames Saturday morning in Tonopah, authorities said.

Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, Harquahala Fire, Avondale Fire and Buckeye Fire are fighting the fire at Hickman's Egg Ranch in Tonopah that was reported around 5 a.m. on Saturday. According to their website, Hickman's Egg Ranch is the largest egg company in the Southwest.

The fire crews are in the defensive strategy and protecting exposures. There is also a fire investigator on the scene, but no cause has been identified.

Authorities confirmed chickens were inside the barn but did not say whether or not the animals survived. There are no injuries to humans reported.

A previous barn fire was reported in 2021 and resulted in the loss of thousands of chickens and two barns.
