COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — Three adults and two kids were flown to the hospital Wednesday after suffering from possible carbon monoxide poisoning on a houseboat at Lake Powell.
The National Park Service was dispatched at about 12:45 a.m. on July 17 to Face Canyon where rangers reportedly found 21 people who had been affected by carbon monoxide poisoning. Five of the patients were flown to the hospital for treatment and the others were treated on scene.
Boats can collect a hazardous amount of carbon monoxide anytime engines or appliances are left running.
NPS said the source of the carbon monoxide is still under investigation. The July 17 incident was the third carbon monoxide-related event reported in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area this month, NPS said.
Wednesday's incident occurred on the Arizona side of the canyon within Coconino County.
