20-year-old killed after jet ski crashes into boat on Colorado River in Yuma County

For an unknown reason, the jet ski turned into the path of the boat, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

YUMA, Ariz. — A young man is dead after authorities say his jet ski collided with a boat on the Colorado River on Saturday afternoon. 

Yuma Country Sheriff's Office investigators say the report of the crash came in around 3:30 p.m. 

Authorities say a boat and a jet ski were going south along the Colorado River, north of Martinez Lake, parallel to each other when they crashed. 

For an unknown reason, the jet ski turned into the path of the boat, the sheriff's office said.

The person riding the jet ski was identified as 20-year-old Tristen Hays of Lake Side, California.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol is a contributing factor.

The crash is under investigation.
