TUCSON, Ariz. — A man is dead following a crash in Tucson on Saturday, police said.
The Tucson Police Department and the Tucson Fire Department responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian in a wheelchair and a vehicle near Ajo Way and Nogales Highway on Saturday morning.
The pedestrian, who was in a wheelchair, was pronounced deceased at the scene police said. Detectives determined the vehicle was traveling east on Ajo Way when it collided with the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the street. Police said the pedestrian was not in or near a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
An officer evaluated the driver of the vehicle and determined the driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. Police said mid-block crossing by the pedestrian is the major contributing factor to the crash.
No charges or citations have been issued, police said. Police did not release the name of the man who died or the driver of the vehicle.
According to the Tucson Police Department, this is the third fatality of 2024.
