PRESCOTT, Ariz. — One person has died after a car crash involving a cement mixer Wednesday afternoon near Prescott.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the collision involved three vehicles near the intersection of Williamson Valley Road and Pioneer Parkway.

A passenger car was stopped northbound at the light at Pioneer Parkway when another passenger vehicle attempted to pass it by using the lane-ending right lane. The two cars ended up colliding after the driver was forced to merge into the left lane, YCSO said.

The collision resulted in the second car spinning into the southbound lane, cutting off an oncoming cement mixer. YCSO said the driver of the cement mixer tried to avoid a crash but ended up hitting the car and then a guardrail.

The driver of the car that hit the mixer was flown to a hospital in critical condition. His wife was riding as a passenger and died on the way to the hospital.

YCSO said it appears the cement mixer's driver had no opportunity to avoid the fatal crash.
