MARICOPA, Ariz. — A man is in custody after an hours-long barricade situation in Maricopa, police said.

Maricopa police were called to a home near Porter Road in Maricopa for an aggravated assault involving a firearm just before 3 a.m. on Feb. 17. A man allegedly threatened to kill a woman and at one point chased her and her children down the street, police said.

When officers arrived, they ensured the safety of the woman and her children, but the suspect refused to leave the home for several hours. The Pinal County Sheriff's Office's SWAT Unit and additional Maricopa officers responded to the scene and a brief shelter-in-place alert was sent to residents in the immediate area.

Just after 8 a.m., the suspect, later identified as 56-year-old Shannon Hammond Sr. from Rialto, California was taken into custody.

Police said no one was injured.

The identities of the woman and children involved were not released.
