Two crashes led to street closures in east and north Phoenix on Thursday.

A head-on crash involving two trucks at 46th Avenue and Thomas Road sent five people -- four adults and one 14-year-old -- to the hospital. The injured were transported to local trauma centers in extremely critical condition, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

In north Phoenix, a serious injury crash at 21st and Northern avenues led to the closure of Northern Avenue from 21st to 19th Avenue. Aerial video of the scene from Sky 12 showed a minivan and an SUV involved in a serious crash with debris spread across Northern Avenue.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department said. Crews are investigating the incident.

A woman ejected from one of the vehicles during the crash may have been struck by a car, the spokesman said, adding that the woman is currently in extremely critical condition.
