PHOENIX — Homelessness in Arizona was a known issue long before a pandemic caused an economic downfall. The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness estimated more than 10,000 people were homeless on any given day in Arizona in 2019.

UMOM New Day Centers offers shelter, supportive services and housing for families, single women and youth who are homeless year round. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, they have seen a 30% increase to the family shelter wait list.

With such an increase in people who need assistance, UMOM asked the community for help and Salad and Go answered that call.

“Donating healthy food for those in need is important to us at Salad and Go because we know the positive impact fresh, organic ingredients have on everyone’s health," said Tony Christofellis, Co-Founder, Salad and Go. "These donations allow us to serve our community and put our core value “compassion” into action by doing good.”

“We are so grateful to Salad and Go for providing the salad kits for our families and single women at UMOM New Day Centers this week,” said Chef Dina Altieri, Director of Culinary Enterprises at UMOM.

“We offered these delicious, nutrient-dense Greek and Caesar salads for two consecutive lunches at both our main campus and Halle Women’s Center. We really appreciate their community spirit and love collaboration with companies like Salad and Go.”
