Pima County resident tests positive for coronavirus, raising Arizona's number of cases to 6

Officials state that the risk to the general population remains low.

PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — An individual has tested positive for the coronavirus in Pima County, the Pima County Health Department said Monday.

The department stated in a tweet that the case was travel-related. They also advised that the risk of the spreading of the infection to the general population remains low.

They ended the tweet by encouraging people to wash their hands.

The Arizona Department of Health updated its database on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for Intel also announced Tuesday that an employee who was recently on a business trip at the Chandler campus contracted COVID-19.

"We wish our employee a speedy recovery. The health and wellbeing of our workers and visitors are our top priorities," Linda Qian said in a statement.

"We will cooperate with local health authorities as needed and we’re working to ensure that all our personnel have the resources and information they need to say safe."

There are six cases of coronavirus in Arizona so far.

Of those six, one has been confirmed to be travel-related. The other five are person-to-person.

The travel-related case and one of the person-to-person cases are "positive" and the other four person-to-person cases are "presumptive positive," meaning they have been confirmed by the state but not by the CDC yet.

There have been no coronavirus-related deaths in Arizona so far.

Eighty-four people have been tested and 27 tests are still pending.

The best way to prevent COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases is to:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
