PHOENIX — The number of coronavirus cases in Arizona is on the rise once again. We continue to track updates on any developments regarding COVID-19.
Here’s a breakdown of the case numbers for the week of Dec. 27 and other updates on the coronavirus and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Daily update on COVID-19 cases in Arizona

Here are the coronavirus case and death updates in Arizona for the week of Dec. 27:
Saturday, Jan. 1: 8,220 new cases, 125 new deaths and 1,389,708 total cases
Friday, Dec. 31: 7,720 new cases, 17 new deaths and 1,381,488 total cases
Thursday, Dec. 30: 5,687 new cases, 41 new deaths and 1,373,767 total cases
Wednesday, Dec. 29: 3,411 new cases, 27 new deaths and 1,368,080 total cases.
Tuesday, Dec. 28: 1,976 new cases, 162 new deaths and 1,364,669 total cases.
Monday, Dec. 27: 7,641 new cases, 0 new deaths and 1,362,693 total cases.

Valleywise Health held a press conference addressing updates on COVID in the state on Wednesday. The updates include;
- There are 50 COVID-positive patients they're caring for currently across the system.
- About 90.7% of COVID-positive hospitalized patients at Valleywise Health are not fully vaccinated.
- In regards to the CDC's updated regulations on a five-day quarantine, Valleywise is suggesting that those who still feel symptoms after five days should continue to quarantine.
On Tuesday, officials from Banner Health held a news conference to give an update on the coronavirus in Arizona. Here's a breakdown of the updates:
- Inpatient volumes remain high with some Banner hospitals are operating 100% above capacity.
- Effective Tuesday, Banner will no longer administer the monoclonal COVID-19 antibodies due to a decreased efficacy against the omicron variant.
- Instead, the sotrovimab antibody treatment will be administered once available to help treat the omicron variant.
- Supply of the sotrovimab antibodies is expected Jan. 3.
- The Pfizer pill will be available starting Tuesday at Banner Health hospitals and only can be prescribed by a physician. Initial supplies are extremely limited.
