PHOENIX — The national Women's March will be held in Phoenix on Jan. 20. The Phoenix march will be one of over 100 marches and events held across the country in the days before the 51st anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court case, Roe v. Wade.
The Women's March organization held their first march in Washington D.C. in 2017 and have held several since then, including one on the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade last year. This year, Phoenix will host the national event, and so far there are over 100 local marches happening across the country, according to the Women's March website.
Arizona was chosen to be the site of the national march because it is the "next major abortion battleground," according to Women's March organizers. Arizona is also one of nine states with anticipated ballot measure surrounding abortion rights in 2024.

Women's March in Phoenix
When: Saturday Jan. 20
Time: The event starts at 11 a.m. with a petition signing and tabling portion. At 11:45 a.m., the program will begin, and the march will begin after the program.

What should you bring?
The Women's March recommends bringing:
- Small backpack
- Signs
- Comfortable shoes
- Mask & hand sanitizer
- Portable Phone charger
What should you not bring to the Women's March?
Any weapons, or anything that can be construed as a weapon, including pocket knives, multi-tools, mace, scissors, etc.
Any illegal drugs
The Women's March also suggested avoiding certain imagery on signs:
"Coat-hanger imagery: We do not want to accidentally reinforce the right wing talking points that self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful."
"Handmaid’s Tale theme: The use of Handmaid's Tale imagery to characterize the controlling of women’s reproduction has proliferated, primarily by white women across the country, since the show has gained popularity. This message continues to create more fragmentation, often around race and class, because it erases the fact that Black women, undocumented women, incarcerated women, poor women and disabled women have always had their reproduction freedom controlled in this country. This is not a dystopian past or future."
