Tyke James will advance to the Top 13 on NBC’s “The Voice” after he was saved from elimination Tuesday night.
The 17-year-old Mesa native gave it his all in his folksy rendition of the Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” in the show’s Playoffs.
Here’s how it works. Two artists on each team must get enough votes to move on. Each coach selects one of their remaining artists to advance.
James didn’t get enough viewer votes to move on, but he was saved by his team’s coach, Adam Levine.
Before Tuesday night’s performance, he told Team 12’s Krystle Henderson that if he didn’t advance in this round, he planned on going home, buying a van and touring around for a little while.
James auditioned on "The Voice" with a soulful cover of Ed Sheeran's "Perfect." A few lines into the first verse, Adam Levine turned his chair.
Kelly Clarkson called the acoustic cover, "pretty."
"It's hard to explain, but when you get that adrenaline rush, and I turned around and you're clearly a freakin' stud," Levine said after the audition."
