Shooter gets 15 years in prison for firing 30 shots outside Chandler Fashion Center

The shooting resulted in panic and confusion among the mall's shoppers and several businesses had to be placed under lockdown.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for discharging an AK-15-style gun outside of Chandler Fashion Center last year.

Nathaniel Vensor was recently sentenced in court after pleading guilty to several felony offenses tied to an incident that occurred last August in the parking lot of the East Valley shopping center, located near Chandler Boulevard and Loop 101.

During an attempted robbery, Vensor used an illegally-modified weapon to fire up to 30 shots. No injuries were reported but the shooting resulted in the mall being placed under lockdown for several hours.

Vensor fled from the scene and was arrested by Chandler police the following day. He was also found to be in possession of illegal drugs, officials said.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office said the defendant was on felony probation at the time of the Chandler shooting for a separate case outside of Pinal County.
