Worker allegedly walked into Phoenix office with shotgun, fired blast at colleague

The 32-year-old man is facing charges of attempted murder after he allegedly brought a shotgun into a Phoenix office building.

PHOENIX — A Tucson man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly fired a shotgun blast at a former coworker inside a Phoenix office building Wednesday afternoon.

Zane Hammond, 32, was taken into custody after he allegedly drove to the Valley and walked into an office near 7th Street and University Drive armed with a deadly weapon.

Court records show Hammond had been an employee of the business and quit his job earlier that day after a dispute with his supervisor.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., security cameras allegedly captured Hammond walking into the office with a shotgun. One employee told police that Hammond raised the firearm toward them, prompting the worker to duck underneath their desk.

After a shot was fired, the worker flipped their desk and another employee ran over to wrestle the shotgun away from Hammond, court records show.

The employees were able to subdue the suspect and put him in a choke hold until police officers arrived.

Hammond allegedly told police he was upset with how he had been treated by the company's management. The suspect was booked into jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond and is facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
