Suspect claims he 'accidentally' killed woman while trying to shoot dog in south Phoenix

The shooting happened at a home near 16th Street and Broadway Road just after 1:30 a.m., police said.

PHOENIX — A woman is dead after a shooting in south Phoenix early Thursday morning and police have recently made an arrest.

Maury Williamson, 35, has been arrested on suspicion of killing 38-year-old Genoveva Antillon.

According to early reports, officers were called to a home near 16th Street and Broadway Road around 1:30 a.m. There they found Antillon in front of the home suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders took the woman to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Police said Williamson alleged he accidentally shot the victim as he was attempting to shot a dog on the property he thought was attacking him.

A firearm was allegedly found hidden inside the suspect's residence, police said.
