PHOENIX — A woman died after being shot in south Phoenix Thursday night, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Officers were called to a neighborhood near Interstate 17 and 15th Avenue just after 9 p.m. and found a woman at the scene with at least one gunshot wound, officials said. She was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead.
She was identified by Phoenix police Friday as 26-year-old Edith Rivas.
Detectives investigated the shooting throughout the night and identified a suspect.
Detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting and are working to identify a suspect, officials said. 34-year-old Gary Parchinog was then arrested for murder.
The motive behind the shooting is unknown.
