Shooting in west Phoenix leaves woman dead

The shooting happened in a neighborhood near 83rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 10:15 p.m., Phoenix police said.

PHOENIX — The woman who died in a shooting in west Phoenix late Wednesday evening has been identified, police said.

The shooting reportedly happened in a neighborhood near 83rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road around 10:15 p.m. When officers arrived in the area, they found 25-year-old Jennifer Jazmin Lopez with a gunshot wound. 

First responders pronounced her dead on the scene, police said.

Detectives took over the investigation and learned that 24-year-old Steven Gault III was responsible for the shooting death of Lopez. 

Gault was booked on one count of manslaughter, police said.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case. 

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
