PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — A woman died after she jumped from a moving car to escape her boyfriend who had allegedly taken drugs and wouldn't let her out of the car, officials with the Pima County Sheriff's Office said.
The woman called 911 around 6:20 p.m. Saturday and told police she was in a car with her boyfriend who was driving up Mt. Lemmon and wouldn't stop to let her out, officials said.
Deputies responded to the area, on Catalina Highway and Mt. Lemmon, and tried to pull the car over, officials said. The driver would not stop and a short pursuit ensued. The woman eventually jumped out of the car and deputies immediately stopped to check on her.
The woman was critically injured. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died, officials said.
The car was driving at speeds between 25 to 45 mph, officials said. It is unclear how fast the car was going when the woman jumped.
The driver, identified as 36-year-old William Holloway, was arrested and is facing multiple felony charges including domestic violence kidnapping, first-degree homicide and fleeing law enforcement. He was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on those charges. officials said.
The investigation is ongoing.
