Police looking for answers after woman is beaten and later dies

Police are investigating a woman's death after she was found in an alley on 46th Street.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating the death of a woman after they say she was found in an alley and appeared to have been assaulted.

According to police, officers were called to an alley near 44th Street and Thomas Road around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 13. 

Officers found a woman who looked like she had been assaulted. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries but died on Friday, June 21. 

The woman has since been identified as Margie New, 64. 

An autopsy on June 24 revealed New suffered severe trauma before her death resulting in her death being considered a homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO) and provide an anonymous tip. Rewards will be paid for information leading to an arrest in this case.
