PHOENIX — When Maricopa County deputies went to pick up Lori Vallow for extradition from prison in Idaho, they were told she had a black box with her.
The deputies were told to take it with them and book it into evidence for "safekeeping," according to new records obtained by the 12News I-Team.
On Friday, MCSO turned over documents and body-camera footage related to Vallow's trip to Arizona. New details about Vallow's extradition, which cost MCSO over $15,000, were included in the records.
What was in the black box?
The late November 2023 video depicts deputies going through the black box with Vallow. They just spent about 18 hours driving the convicted murderer from the Women's Correctional Center in Pocatello, Idaho, to Maricopa County, where she was about to be booked in jail on two felony charges.
Records and video reveal that the black box Vallow had with her was locked with a padlock and she was the only one with the combination. After arriving at the intake facility in Maricopa County, deputies asked her to open the box. Records show electronic case files inside the black box in the form of hard drives, flash drives and a laptop. There were also several notebooks in the box.
A photo of the box's exterior showed a label that said "Property of Means Law Office, PLLC." Mark Means was Vallow's attorney in Idaho before he was disqualified from the case in 2021.
Vallow asked if husband Chad Daybell would be indicted in Arizona, too
Before extradition, Vallow was serving three life sentences in the deaths of her children, Tylee and JJ, and her husband Chad Daybell's first wife, Tammy Daybell.
Vallow used to live in the East Valley with her children. Tylee and JJ disappeared in late 2019 and their bodies were later discovered in Chad Daybell's backyard in 2020. Tammy Daybell was killed in her home in October 2019.
Chad Daybell is set to go to trial in Idaho in April for charges in the same three murders.

Vallow is facing two conspiracy to commit murder charges in Maricopa County.
One case is out of Chandler in the death of her former husband Charles Vallow. The other is out of Gilbert for a shooting directed at Vallow’s niece’s ex-husband, who ultimately wasn’t hurt.
Vallow's brother, Alex Cox, is suspected to be involved in both cases. He can’t be charged because he died in December 2019.
Deputies wrote that Vallow was “extremely talkative” and “cooperative” during the extradition drive and that they couldn’t talk to her about her cases.
Still, she asked if her husband, Chad Daybell, would be indicted in Arizona, too.
12News previously reported that MCAO declined to prosecute Chad Daybell in the Chandler and Gilbert cases.
As for Vallow, she’s pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy charges and remains in the Estrella Jail.
