2 teen girls hospitalized after crash in allegedly stolen car, police say

Phoenix police said that the car failed to yield to a traffic stop, and eventually crashed. A third suspect ran away from the crash.

PHOENIX — Two teen girls are in the hospital after they were in a crash in an allegedly stolen car overnight on Sunday. Phoenix police said that they are looking for a third suspect who fled the scene of the crash.

Officers reportedly found a stolen vehicle near 23rd and Northern avenues just after midnight. When the car pulled into a nearby apartment complex, officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle drove away.

Officers didn't pursue the vehicle, which sped down Butler Drive and ran a red light at 19th Avenue. The vehicle then lost control and crashed into a block wall, metal fencing, and a fire hydrant.

Two female juveniles were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after the crash, and a third suspect ran from the collision and remains outstanding, police said.

It is currently unknown which of the three occupants was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Investigators are working to learn more about what led up to the crash and find the suspect.

Authorities have not released the identities of the girls at this time.
