Man dead, woman seriously injured after Phoenix shooting

PHOENIX — A man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after a shooting in Phoenix on Sunday evening. 

The Phoenix Police Department said 36-year-old Cedric Louis Springfield has died and an unidentified 61-year-old woman was seriously injured after the shooting near Central Avenue and Dobbins Road around 6:30 p.m. 

Police said the shooting occurred when an unidentified man confronted Springfield while the two were in the common area of an apartment complex. 

Police said an argument ensued, and the suspect produced a firearm and fired several rounds.  

Springfield and a 61-year-old woman were both struck. 

Both victims were transported to the hospital, where Springfield died of his injuries.  

The woman is expected to survive.
