'They took everything': Small business owners search for stolen work truck

The truck was reported stolen near 36th Street and Thomas Road on Monday, police say.

PHOENIX — Small business owners are asking for help searching for their work truck after they said it was stolen with thousands of dollars worth of tools and supplies in the back.

"They took everything," Mercadez Hernandez said. "We were working with what we had like it wasn't a beautiful truck, it was nothing new but we made what we had work because it was ours."

The truck, a 2003 black Chevy Silverado, was reported stolen from an apartment complex near 36th Street and Thomas Road between Sunday night and Monday morning.

"When my husband had stepped out to throw the trash away, the truck was gone," Hernandez said.

Not only is this their family's only car. It's Hernandez's husband's work truck.

The couple runs Full Blown Auto Glass, a windshield replacement business.

"I had three insurance claims that were going to be done and then four cash jobs. None of those got done," Hernandez said on Tuesday.

In the back of the truck was everything the couple needed to run their small business and more.

"The truck not only had money, it had tools, it had my husband's wallet, social, baby pictures," Hernandez said.

Phoenix Police confirmed they're investigating a report of a stolen car.

Hernandez has hope someone will recognize her truck and help her family get back to work.

"You might have needed it in that moment, but I need it to provide for my daughter," Hernandez said.

A GoFundMe page was created to help the Hernandez family during this time. Donations can be made here
