TEMPE, Ariz. — Officers fired shots at a man in Tempe after they say he rammed their patrol car with his vehicle.

According to police, officers were working on street racing enforcement Thursday in the area of Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway around 11:30 p.m. when they saw a car speeding and running red lights.

Around 11:45 p.m., officers said they found the car driving southbound on Mill Avenue. When the driver of the car tried to enter a parking garage there was a gate blocking the entrance.

The driver then put his car in reverse and rammed the Tempe Police Department patrol car. Two officers then fired at the suspect.

The driver put the car in drive and drove into the garage. Officers created a perimeter and arrested the suspect who was identified as Azeez Olaniyan, 30.

Olaniyan suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.

Both officers were placed on leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
