Tempe police officer arrested for DUI weeks after being honored by MADD

Officer Zachary Hyde was off-duty at the time of his arrest, according to the Tempe Police Department.

TEMPE, Ariz. — A Tempe police officer was arrested for DUI just weeks after being honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his work. 

According to the Tempe Police Department, Zachary Hyde was off-duty on July 31 when the Department of Public Safety arrested him for DUI. 

Hyde was one of two officers honored by MADD with the Hero Award at the 35th annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving Law Enforcement recognition banquet in June.

Hyde was placed on administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation. DPS will handle the DUI investigation.
