He promised to follow all laws after pleading guilty in a 'Gilbert Goon' assault. He was arrested for underage drinking the same day.

Jacob Pennington was arrested and charged with underage drinking the day he was sentenced to probation for his role in a teen violence case in Gilbert.

GILBERT, Ariz. — Gilbert police arrested a man who had just been sentenced hours before to three years of probation after pleading guilty in a teen violence case.

Jacob Pennington, 20, was a passenger in a car that was pulled over just after 10:45 p.m. on June 13 near Lindsay and Elliot roads, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

"Evidence was observed which indicated Pennington had consumed an alcoholic beverage," a statement from Gilbert police said.

Pennington was arrested and charged with minor in consumption of alcohol, a class 2 misdemeanor.

Earlier in the day on June 13, Pennington was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to a "Gilbert Goon" related assault in 2022.

On June 17, a motion to revoke Pennington's probation was filed in Maricopa County, according to court documents.

"The State has reason to believe that mere hours after the Defendant received a probation grant and signed his terms and conditions of probation that he then failed to comply with those terms," the court documents said, continuing that he "failed to obey all criminal laws."

Pennington had also pleaded guilty earlier the week of June 13 to another assault in Pinal County for his role in an assault in November 2023.

Gilbert police notified Maricopa and Pinal County Attorney’s Office of Pennington's arrest. Pinal County officials sent the following statement:

We are aware of Pennington's arrest in Gilbert. We are monitoring the situation and working with our law enforcement partners, however there are several factors at play in this instance given he has cases in Pinal and Maricopa Counties. This is a fluid situation that will be sorted out in due time.
