BUCKEYE, Ariz. — A 16-year-old was arrested in Buckeye on felony weapons charges after allegedly firing shots at an intersection.

Buckeye police responded to reports of shots fired near Watson and Yuma roads Tuesday at 4 p.m. and learned no one was injured, but found several shell casings in the area, according to Buckeye police officials.

During their investigation, officers received information that a dark-colored car was involved. They later spotted a car matching the description about a block away, leaving the neighborhood.

Officers pulled the car over for not signaling a lane change, officials said. The officer saw an ammunition magazine in the back seat of the car and asked all four people to exit the vehicle but one initially refused, officials said.

When the teen male did exit the car, officers saw he was sitting on a handgun, which was determined to be stolen, officials said. The 16-year-old also had ammunition in his pants pocket, according to police.

The teen was arrested on charges of weapons misconduct. Due to his age, his name has not been released.

Officers are still investigating the shots fired incident.
