The 17-year-old has been arrested for allegedly being involved in an assault that occurred more than a year ago.

GILBERT, Arizona — A 17-year-old has been recently arrested for allegedly assaulting a minor in 2022, marking the latest development in the Gilbert Police Department's ongoing investigations into youth violence.

Police announced Monday that officers have recently arrested the 17-year-old for their alleged involvement in an assault that occurred outside of a residence near Higley and Riggs roads on Nov. 22, 2022.

The crime was not reported to Gilbert police until Jan. 4, 2024.

Kyler Renner, 18, was arrested last week for his alleged involvement in the 2022 incident.

Gilbert police have reported making up to 14 arrests in recent months for cases related to teen violence. The issue has attracted more attention in the East Valley since the death of 16-year-old Preston Lord in Queen Creek last fall.

Gilbert police said its investigation into the Nov. 22 assault is independent of Queen Creek’s investigation into Lord's death.
