PHOENIX — A teenage boy was arrested Friday night after he allegedly hit and injured an officer while trying to drive away from a traffic stop, according to Phoenix Police.
Police said an officer attempted to pull the driver over near the intersection of 33rd and Morten Avenues just after 9 p.m. on Friday. That is near Mariposa Park, just southeast of the intersection of 35th and Northern Avenues.
After being pulled over, the driver drove away and hit a police officer, injuring them.
Police chased the driver to the area of 42nd Avenue and Camelback Road, where they were able to stop him and take him into custody.
Phoenix Police said the driver was booked into jail on multiple counts, which include aggravated assault on a police officer.
The officer who was hit had minor injuries and was treated and released from a nearby hospital on Friday night.
The driver has not been identified and police did not say why he was pulled over.
This is a developing story. More details will be added as they are made available.
