PHOENIX — Phoenix police were involved in a shooting Monday night when the suspect of a domestic violence call confronted officers while armed with a pair of knives, authorities said.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. at a home near Union Hills Drive and 21st Street, police said.
Officers learned that the suspect, 55-year-old Abraham Hermosillo, had been arguing with his mother and was armed with a knife. Police also learned that Hermosillo had an outstanding warrant.
When police entered the home, they reportedly found Hermosillo inside brandishing two knives. According to a police report, he refused to drop the knives and started following his mother into another room.
At that point, one of the officers shot Hermosillo and less-lethal tools were used to take him into custody.
He was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was released by Tuesday morning.
Police said that they're still investigating the incident and that Hermosillo will be booked on multiple felony charges.
