A man who was allegedly involved in harming a puppy found dead with its mouth taped shut in a Scottsdale alley has been arrested in Alabama, officials said.

Lester P. Richmond, 36, was indicted last December for a charge of animal cruelty, a Class 5 felony, after a dead Husky puppy was found by Scottsdale police in June 2023 near McDowell and Hayden roads.

The Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced Wednesday that Richmond was arrested last Friday on an outstanding warrant and will be extradited back to Arizona.

“My office is grateful to the Scottsdale Police Department, the public, and the Troy Police Department for their efforts in bringing this defendant to justice,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a statement. “His extradition is expected in the next 30 days, once he is in Maricopa County we can proceed with prosecution.”
