TUCSON, Ariz. — A teenage boy was arrested on October 31, 2024, after leading police on a chase that resulted in multiple collisions. The incident began shortly after 3:45 p.m. when deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department saw a car commit a traffic violation at South Houghton Road and East Tanque Verde Road.
PCSD says when deputies tried to pull the car over, the driver refused to stop and sped away, almost hitting one of the officers. The car was later found at a convenience store at South Houghton Road and East Drexel Road, where it crashed into several parked vehicles before fleeing again.
According to PCSD, as the suspect continued to drive, more collisions were reported at nearby intersections. Deputies eventually tracked the vehicle to a neighborhood near East Old Spanish Trail and South Galileo Lane. When officers approached, the driver fled once more, and during this encounter, one deputy fired their gun.
The car was finally stopped at the entrance to the Rocking K Ranch Community. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and treated for minor injuries at the scene. Thankfully, no deputies or bystanders were hurt during the chase.
The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team is investigating the shooting, with the Oro Valley Police Department leading that investigation. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is conducting its own separate inquiry into the events that unfolded.
